Playa Veneo has good waves throughout the year which are good for both beginner and intermediate surfers.
The waves break both to the right and to the left and average about 10 feet high (3 m).

Surfing in Playa Venao Panama
About Playa Venao
Until recently, there was not much in Playa Venao apart from a small restaurant and a large open beach.
However, as more travelers began to explore southern Azuero, the beach is shaping up as one of the most remarkable surf spots in Panama.
It is a paradise for surfers and also a good place to rest, spend a few days with family and enjoy beautiful lodging options such as those offered by Eco Venao with its beachfront cabins, family homes, delicious food at the Panga restaurant and it’s many outdoors activities such as horseback riding and trekking to the waterfall.
Its arched brown sand beach has been the venue for important national and international surfing competitions,such as the International Surfing Championship “Playa Venao Golden Pro” which was held in 2017 and was attended by surfers from more than ten countries, giving a total of 64 wave runners (surfers), among which 12 were Panamanians and 42 from other nationalities.
The Billabong ISA World Surfing Games tournament in 2011 was also held at Playa Venao.
How to get to Playa Venao
Playa Venao is approximately 5 hours by car from Panama City.
If you are looking for a cheaper option, buses leave from the main bus terminal of Albrook in Panama City every 2 hours until 7:00 p.m.
Accommodation at Playa Venao
Staying at Eco Venao is perfect if you have come to Playa Venao to surf and as part of the lodge we have the Surfers’ Hostel.
The Surfers’ Hostel, is quiet and relaxing and offers a dorm with 8 beds, two double private rooms and two private family rooms.
It is not possible to reserve a particular bed in the hostel as they are rented on a first come basis, however, the four private rooms can be reserved in advance.
The Surfers’ Hostel has a common area where you can find a fully equipped kitchen, hammocks, wifi, and drinking water dispenser.
